Pied Bushchat (Saxicola caprata )

The Pied BushChat (Saxicola caprata) is a small (13.5 cm) passerine  bird which is ,locally common resident in our state,Karnataka. Pied Bushchat (Male)

They nest in cavities in stone walls or in holes in an embankment, lining the nest with grass and animal hair.The males are black with white shoulder and vent patches whose extent varies among populations. Females are predominantly brownish while juveniles are speckled.This species is insectivorous, and like other chats hunts from a prominent low perch.(Source  – Wikipedia )

  1. Very nice photograph showing the habitat of the bird as well. Hesaraghatta faces a threat though. If its grassland is modified, such birds will not have suitable habitat any more. http://www.dnaindia.com/bangalore/report_bangalores-only-grassland-in-danger_1733241
